Start with use, then appearance
A kitchen counter, vanity and display counter have different daily demands. Describe how the surface will be used and what cleaning or care you are prepared to do. If you are choosing marble for its appearance, understand its sensitivity to acidic spills before committing.

Make the drawing useful
- Show the length and depth of each counter run.
- Mark the sink, hob, taps, corners and wall returns.
- State which edges will be visible and your preferred edge profile.
- Ask the fabricator to identify seams and any support requirements.
Cabinets and appliance information should be confirmed before final templating. A preliminary sketch can start pricing, but it should not replace the fabricator’s final site check.
Select the slab before approving the cut
Look at the full slab and discuss how prominent veins or grain will fall around corners and openings. If more than one slab is required, compare them together. Ask whether your quote includes the edge work, cut-outs, delivery and fitting you expect.
Care after installation
